Home > WR250R Lighting Guide
After getting a lot of emails about replacing the factory tail light and turn signals on the WR250R, I decided to put together this lighting guide. I've broke it down into 5 different sections, with a few options for each...
- REPLACING THE FACTORY REAR TAIL LIGHT AND TURN SIGNALS
- REPLACING THE FACTORY FRONT TURN SIGNALS
- REPLACING THE FACTORY HEADLIGHT BULB
- PACKAGE DEALS
- OTHER PRODUCTS TO CONSIDER
I'll be adding more to this every now and then, but so far here's what I've got...
REPLACING THE FACTORY REAR TAIL LIGHT AND TURN SIGNALS
OPTION 1: DRC Edge Rear Tail Light Kit with DRC Flashers
The most popular way to get rid of that big ugly rear tail light assembly on the Yamaha WR250R (and WR250X) is to replace it with the DRC Edge Tail Light Kit and a pair of bolt on turn signals/flashers, like the DRC Type 601 or Type 602. The Edge Tail Light kit bolts directly to the sub-frame of the WR250R/X, and the DRC Type 601/602 turns signals bolt to the Edge Tail Light kit itself. This setup gives you a nice compact tail light/turn signal assembly that looks 100x better than the stock unit.

OPTION 2: Edge Rear Tail Light with 12oclockLabs DRC Edge2 Processor Upgrade Board
Another way to replace the stock WR250R/X tail light assembly is to purchase the DRC Edge Tail Light Kit along with the 12oclockLabs DRC Edge2 Processor Upgrade Board, which you install inside the DRC Edge Tail Light. With this setup, you will not have separate bolt-on rear turn signals because the 12oclockLabs DRC Edge2 Processor Upgrade Board integrates the turn signals/flashers into the tail light itself. This makes for an even more compact rear tail light/turn signal assembly, but be sure to consider whether something like this will get you pulled over for not having proper external turn signals, which are required in some states.

REPLACING THE FACTORY FRONT TURN SIGNALS
OPTION 1: DRC Type 601 or Type 602 Flashers w/ DRC Mounting Brackets
One of the more popular ways to get rid of the huge stock front turn signals on the WR250R/X is to replace them with a pair of DRC Type 601 or Type 602 turn signals/flashers, using DRC Front Turn Signal Brackets to attach them to the upper fork triple clamp bolts (click photos above). To get the new LED turn signals/flashers to operate as running lights AND to flash at the slow stock flash rate, see the section labeled "Other Products To Consider" at the bottom of this page.

• DRC Type 602 Flashers at SRmoto
• DRC Front Turn Signal Mounting Brackets at SRmoto

OPTION 2: Zeta Armor Hand Guards with Zeta XC Flasher Protectors
Another popular way to replace the stock WR250R/X turn signals is to purchase a set of Zeta Armor Handguards along with the Zeta XC Flasher Protectors (click photos above). This trick little setup integrates a pair of turn signals/flashers into the plastic part of the hand guards. To get the new LED turn signals/flashers in the XC Protectors to operate as running lights AND to flash at the slow stock flash rate, see the section labeled "Other Products To Consider" at the bottom of this page.

REPLACING THE FACTORY HEADLIGHT BULB
OPTION 1: Cyclops LED Headlight Bulb
If you're looking for the brightest headlight bulb available for your WR250R / WR250X, the Cyclops 3800 Lumen H4 LED bulb is the answer. These are the brightest, smallest and most reliable H4 replacement LED bulbs available on the market today! They provide HID performance with all the benefits of LED, and are an amazing upgrade over the stock Halogen headlight bulb, or even the PIAA Halogen bulbs discussed above. The bright white light they provide will light up road hazards, and make you much more visible on the road.

OPTION 2: PIAA Halogen Headlight Bulb
If you're looking for a high quality and affordable replacement headlight bulb for your WR250R or WR250X, PIAA makes a few bulbs that we really like. Their Xtreme White Plus bulb will provide a brilliant Xtreme cool white light that will light up road hazards and street signs long before a normal halogen bulb. Their Super Plasma Gt-X Anti-Vibration Halogen bulb provides an exclusive purple beam along with greater performance over standard bulbs.

12oclockLabs Running Light Adapters
Many bikes will come from the factory with turn signals/flashers that also operate as running lights when the bike is turned on and/or running. On dual sport bikes like the WR250R/X, only the front turn signals/flashers operate as running lights. If you install aftermarket LED turn signals/flashers, like the DRC Type 601, DRC Type 602, or even the Zeta XC Flasher protectors, you will lose the running light feature. If you want to retain that, you need to install a 12oclockLabs Running Light Adapter.
Where To Buy:
• 12oclockLabs Running Light Adapters at SRmoto
12oclockLabs Fixed Rate Turn Signal Flasher
If you install aftermarket LED turn signals/flashers, like the DRC Type 601, DRC Type 602, or even the Zeta XC Flasher protectors, they will flash at a faster rate than the stock turn signals did. This is because OEM flashers are designed for standard bulbs which draw a few watts each, much more than typical aftermarket bulbs or LED signals. If you want your new LED's to flash at the slower rate of the factory turn signals, you will need to install a 12oclockLabs Fixed Rate Turn Signal Flasher.

• 12oclockLabs Fixed Rate Turn Signal Flasher at SRmoto
12oclockLabs DRC Edge2 Processor Upgrade Board
The standard DRC Edge Tail Light mentioned several times above is pretty bright, but if you want something even brighter, then you will want to install a 12oclockLabs DRC Edge2 Processor Upgrade Board into your standard DRC Edge Tail Light. Not only does it make the standard Edge Tail Light brighter, but it also has features like safety brake pulsing and integrated turn signals.
