One of the few negatives to the WR250R is the small 2 gallon gas tank. Stopping for gas every 80-100 miles gets old really quick, so a larger gas tank is a great upgrade to the bike. IMS makes a huge 4.7 gallon gas tank, and a smaller 3 gallon model. I decided to go with the smaller 3 gallon model, which would give me anywhere from 50-70 more miles per tank. The bigger tank would get me even further, but I've heard it's so large that it makes the bike feel considerably wider between your legs, and the extra weight can make the bike a bit more of a handful off-road. I figured the 3 gallon tank, with its 150-200 mile range (depending on how I ride) would be fine for the type of rides I do.
I had a buddy of mine help with installation, and he'd already done an install on his bike, so it went pretty smoothly. Included with the tank is a gas cap, vent hose, and new O-ring seal for the fuel pump. You use your stock fuel pump and stock tank shrouds.
I went with the black tank, which works well with the blue/white plastic on the bike. Fit and finish is really good, my stock tank shrouds fit perfectly, and so far no leaks! My Wolfman Tank Bag (see top photo) still fits as well. The low fuel light seems to come on now around 120 miles and I still have some fuel visible in the tank. I haven't tested the full range yet, but with my 100% bone stock engine, I'm guessing the range is 150-200 miles. Love it!
